British Virgin Islands is open for business post Irma and Maria

Things are definitely looking up for both the BVI, 2 months post-Irma. Yes, there is fuel & provisions for the yachts available and our clients have felt safe. The list of restaurants that have re-opened is growing daily. And the

We as yacht charter vacation brokers, will be among some of the first in the yachting sector to be welcomed at Nanny Cay Marina in Tortola, British Virgin Islands beginning November 6th. The BVI Charter Yacht Society Boat Show gives us, as professional CYBA yacht charter brokers, an opportunity to view the yachts that sail the beautiful turquoise waters as well as experience the level of service our guests enjoy while in the Virgin Islands.

Local writer Carol Bareuther commented this week, “The resilience of Caribbean’s crewed charter yacht industry is inherent in its nature. Yachts are self-contained, with their own crews, generators, air conditioning, gourmet cuisine, water toys and much more.”

With a largely intact charter fleet returning to the VI Professional Charter Association, based in St. Thomas, USVI will begin their showing of charter vacation yachts on November 11th.

In total, there will be over 70 yachts for us to view and new crews to meet over the course of 9 days in the BVI & USVI. We’ll share our perception of the recovery efforts on both sides of the Virgin Islands. Actually, we’re quite amazed at the number of new yachts arriving in time for the shows for the our niche in the travel industry to see!

USVI News Release: "The U.S. Virgin Islands also continues to report progress with its hurricane recovery efforts as normal activities continue to resume across the territory. Speaking to reporters at his Friday press conference, US Virgin Islands Governor Kenneth Mapp confirmed the territory will see an uptick in cruise ship calls this season, numerous beaches have been declared safe for swimming and fishing, and power restoration will continue over the next week. The governor also disclosed that a $12.6 million contract has been awarded to Island Roads for St. Thomas’ Main Street Enhancement Project.Governor Mapp commended the Department of Tourism, the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority and other public and private sector partners for preparing the territory to welcome cruise visitors on November 10th. St. Thomas is expecting 25 cruise ship calls in November, while approximately 90 calls are scheduled for St. Croix this season. All of the island’s airports are operating commercially as well.
In total, 81,000 cubic yards of debris have been removed from the Territory. To date, 1,145 blue roofs have been installed, with 148 completed on Friday. Power restoration teams maintain their goal of restoring electricity to 90 percent of the territory by Christmas."

We'll keep in touch and let you know our thoughts from our trip to the Virgin Islands!
